The northern suburbs are the quietest part of the Athens service area, and quiet cuts both ways. On the one hand there is nobody around: no crowds, no through traffic, no busy lobby full of strangers. On the other hand, that is exactly why an unfamiliar car pulling up outside a house at eleven at night is noticed in Kifisia in a way it never would be in Koukaki.

Why the northern suburbs need more care
These are low-density neighbourhoods of detached houses and small apartment buildings where people know their neighbours’ cars. There is no crowd to disappear into. The practical answer is not secrecy but ordinariness: arriving by taxi or private transfer rather than a vehicle that waits, arriving on foot from a nearby street, and not standing at a gate for five minutes on the phone.
Arriving at an apartment building
Give us the building number, the floor and the bell name or number. If the entry-phone is unreliable — and in older buildings here it often is — tell us, and we will arrange a message on arrival instead. A companion standing at an entrance pressing a bell repeatedly is the single most conspicuous thing that can happen, and it is entirely avoidable with one sentence at booking time.

Evening bookings in Kifisia
Kefalari and the restaurant quarter
Kefalari square and the streets around it hold most of the good restaurants in northern Athens. It is a comfortable place to begin an evening, and unlike central Athens, parking is generally possible.
Dinner before the booking
A dinner-first evening works well here. Give us the restaurant and the reservation time and the companion will meet you there; the booking starts at that point rather than afterwards.

The evening rush on Kifisias Avenue
Between about six and nine on a weekday, Kifisias Avenue is one of the slowest roads in Greece. A journey that takes thirty-five minutes at four in the afternoon takes an hour at seven. If your evening is flexible, booking either side of that window is worth doing.
After ten in the evening
The roads clear and the journey drops to under thirty minutes. Late bookings in the northern suburbs are considerably more predictable than early-evening ones, which is the opposite of what most people assume.
Weekends
Saturday and Sunday are much easier than weekdays here, because the traffic is commuter traffic and it disappears at the weekend.
Incall as an alternative in the north
Why it is worth considering here
